Obituary of Lois Dowdle, widow of Tom Dowdle, deceased SCS Retiree

Jan 16, 1927-Feb 22, 2016 Lois M. Dowdle of Trussville, Alabama passed into God’s loving care in her home Monday morning February 22, 2016. Lois was born in Lake Park, Iowa, married Tom Dowdle, her husband of 54 years, in Birmingham, and lived in Trussville for the past 60 years where she raised her family. Lois was a member of The First Baptist Church of Trussville where she was a loyal member of the Eunice Sunday School Class, enjoyed working with the WMU, and also had an 18 year career with McRae’s department store. She was beloved by her church, community and family and will be greatly missed. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Minnie Wagner Mertens and Henry William Mertens, husband Tom Dowdle, daughter Curry Jo Dowdle Rosa, brothers Wendell Mertens and Marlo Mertens, and sisters Katherine Vijar and Geraldine Baker. Sandra “Sandi” Morgan went to be with the Lord on Saturday, February 20, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. She is preceded in death by her parents Marco Ellis and Gladys Margaret Beck. She is survived by her husband, Malcolm Morgan; one daughter, Tiffany (Brandon) Wiggins; four stepchildren, Annie Anderson, Emily Morgan, Ian (Ali) Morgan, and Chelsea (Justin) Fortescue; three grandchildren, Makayla, Katherine, and Cooper Wiggins; four step grandchildren, Jacob Comesky, Olivia Comesky, Kaitlynn Morgan, and Logan Fortescue; one sister, Ginger (David) Parker; one brother, Ellis (Kathy) Beck; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

July 28, 1927 – Feb. 21, 2016: Bill Hinton, a resident of Birmingham, passed away at the age of 88. A graduate of Ensley High School, he served our country in the Navy during World War II. He attended the University of Alabama where he played the trumpet in the Million Dollar Band. Bill retired after 34 years with Southern Company Services where he was licensed in three states as a structural and architectural engineer. After retirement, he worked as a pilot for Alabama Air Foto. He was a founding member of the Central Park Boys and a member of Meadow Brook Baptist Church. He is survived by Peggy, his wife of 63 years, daughters Elizabeth Martin and Ginger Edwards, son-in-law John Edwards, grandchildren Crys Martin, Dave Edwards, and Kate Edwards, cousin Archibald White, brother-in-law Wallace Day, sister-in-law Billie Day, nephew Mike Day, and niece Kris Beatty. Dear friends and family,

Beth Lorraine Naramore, our special child for 54 years, broke through the surly bonds of earth on February 2, 2016 and was running full speed as St. Peter quickly opened the pearly gates  for her.

She is now wrapped safely in the arms of Jesus as a fully functioning young lady and is surely singing in the Heavenly Choir. God blessed us with Beth for all of these years but he decided it’s best that he call her home.

For those who didn’t know, Beth was born with a condition called “Agenesis of the Corpus Callosum”. Please “Google”  her condition for more info.

She was one of three cases in the medical books at the time and we were told not to expect more than 4 yrs of life for her.  Well, she beat that prognosis by 50 years. She was a tough gal.

Dewey O. Yeager (Sep 19, 1924 – Jan 27, 2016) went to be with the Lord January 27, 2016. Dewey died peacefully of natural causes at Brookwood Hospital in Birmingham, Alabama. Dewey was born September 19, 1924 in West Blocton, Alabama to Olyis D. Yeager and Annie Mosley. He grew up in Marvel, Dogwood, and Pea Ridge communities outside of Montevallo. Dewey attended Montevallo High School. Dewey served during World War Two (WWII) in the U S Naval Construction Forces (NCF), Seabees, in the Pacific Theater of Operations (PTO). He served in construction projects in Saipan, Guam, and Pearl Harbor. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal; the American Area Ribbon; and the Asiatic-Pacific Ribbon. Continue reading →
