Jim Sargent

James Dillon Sargent age 83, of Hayden, passed away Wednesday, November 24th, 2021 at Cullman Regional Hospital. Mr. Sargent was born on April 27, 1938 to James Woodrow and Dorene Brazeel Sargent. He graduated from Hayden High School and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served for four years. He was an entrepreneur of several businesses in his lifetime and retired from Southern Company Services. He was known around Blount County as “Fireman Jim” for his efforts to bring to fruition Volunteer Fire Departments in West Blount County. He also started Fire Safety education for all 5th grades in Blount County Schools.

Jim met and married his match in Shirley Ann Crump Sargent on June 23, 1973, gaining a love to the end of his life and two additional children. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 48 years, Shirley, children Marty Sargent (Lanita), Andrew Sargent, Melanie Sargent Ladner (David), Leanne Butler (Leon) and Shay Crump ( Nancy), His legacy also includes nine grandchildren, 22 great grandchildren and 2great- great grandchildren. The family received friends at the Gethsemane Baptist Church 6170 State Hwy 160 Hayden, Alabama 35079 Sunday, November 28th, 2021 from 1:00 pm until 2:00 pm. Funeral Services were held Sunday, November 28th, 2021 at 2:00 pm in Gethsemane Baptist Church, with burial following at Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery in Hayden, Alabama. Blount County/Cleveland Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.

Wife of Pat McDonald – Former President of SNC

Patricia “Patty” McDonald of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on Wednesday, November 24, 2021. Patty was a leading arts philanthropist and community leader, supporting a multitude of organizations and activities in the greater Birmingham community.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Robert “Pat” McDonald, and is survived by her daughter Patricia Rote (Jeffrey) of Hamilton, Virginia. A visitation will be held on Tuesday, November 30, 2021 from 10:00 am to 11:30 am at Ridout’s Valley Chapel in Homewood.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Alys Stephens Center for the Performing Arts, Virginia Samford Theatre, Red Mountain Theatre, or to any of the numerous arts and community organizations that serve Birmingham.

Charles Crane

Charles William Crane, Sr., age 85, went home to be with our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, November 1st, 2021. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend to many. Charles was born on January 13th, 1936 to Roy and Montera Crane. He was raised in Lipscomb, Alabama. He attended Jones Valley High School (Class of ’54) and graduated from the University of Alabama College of Engineering in 1959. He retired from Southern Company Services, with 36 years of service, in the Department of Hydro Engineering. After his retirement, Charles and his brother James became the co-founders and co-owners of Radio Active Inc.

Charles served our Lord faithfully through the ministries of Jones Memorial Methodist Church, Central Park United Methodist Church, and Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. He served as president of the Men’s Ministry of the North Alabama Conference of the United Methodist Church. Charles was a loving and caring person. He actively looked for ways to help people in need. His acts of kindness will be remembered by many.

Charles was preceded in death by his parents (Roy and Montera Crane), his twin brother (James Crane), and his dear sister (Dene Bunn). Charles is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Melanie, their son, Charlie (Lisa), and two much-adored grandchildren, Joyner and Spencer. He is also survived by many other relatives, who loved him dearly.

The funeral service will be held at Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church on Thursday, November 4th, 2021 at 1 o’clock in the afternoon. Visitation with the family will be held one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pleasant Grove United Methodist Church. 452 Ninth Ave, Pleasant Grove, Alabama 35127.
