John Hall

John Ronald Hall, 92, of Birmingham, Alabama passed away January 29, 2021. He was born September 12, 1928 in Red Level, Alabama. He served in the U.S. Air Force in Anchorage, Alaska 1951-1953 earning the rank of Staff Sergeant. In 1954 he graduated from The University of Alabama with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Commerce. He was Director of Risk Management at Southern Company Services where he helped lead a nationwide group of trailblazers establishing self-insurance arrangements for nuclear power plants.

In retirement, he served with the Service Corps of Retired Executives; volunteered at UAB hospital in the ICU waiting room and was a longtime member of Highlands United Methodist Church. He was preceded in death by his parents Carl Winchester Hall and Esther Bynum Hall; his brothers Carl Bynum Hall (Lois) and Emmett Levert Hall (Diane). He is survived by five loving nieces and their families, Susan Bellows (Robert), Emily Clem (Tom), Janet O’Neil (Frank), Heather Dewitt (Bobby) and Samantha Gambrill (Larry). He is also survived by lifelong friends Booster and Lindel Foshee of Red Level.

A private graveside service will be held February 13th at Southern Heritage Funeral Home. The family requests donations be made to Highlands United Methodist Church.

David Slovensky

David Slovensky, age 71 of Gardendale, Alabama, passed away on December 20, 2020.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Slovensky; Niece, Morgan E. Thompson.

David is survived by his brother, Joe Slovensky; sisters, Alice (Bill) Friese, Pauline (Dee) Brasfield, Mary Thompson; longtime friend, Jean Rogers; and a host of nieces and nephews; and his fur babies, Pumpkin, Bolt, Dixie and Pi.

He was a member of St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church.

Private graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 23, 2020, 10:00 am at the St. Michael’s Catholic Cemetery, Brookside, AL,

Due to Covid-19, a Memorial Mass will be held at a later date.
