Kenneth Hull Powers, Jr of Birmingham, Alabama passed away on September 28, 2023 at the age of 73. Ken grew up in Birmingham and graduated from Berry High School in 1968. He graduated from UAB in 1972 and worked as a nuclear engineer at Southern Company for over 30 years.
Ken earned his degrees in mechanical engineering and physics and was known for his intelligence and wit. Though Ken was often described as a reserved and quiet man, those closest to him loved him for his bright personality and sense of humor. Stories of his wild antics made him the life of the party.
Beyond his professional achievements, he was a skilled builder, a world traveler, and most importantly a loving father.
He is predeceased by his parents, Kenneth and Frances, and his sister Kay. He is survived by his wife, Tina; his sisters, Martha, Karen, and Kelly; and his daughters, Katie and Zoe.
In lieu of traditional funeral services, a celebration of Ken’s life will be held at Unity of Birmingham on October 22, 2023 at 2:30 PM.

William ‘Bill’ Daniel Brasher, Sr., 82, of Vestavia Hills, Alabama went home to be with the Lord on September 26, 2023. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 11, 1941.
Bill graduated from Woodlawn High School in Birmingham, Alabama. He was married to Patricia Ann Cook on November 25, 1959. They met while attending Woodlawn High School. He was a lifetime member of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church, in Vestavia Hills, Alabama. He was a devoted husband and father, dedicated to the care and well-being of his family.
Bill was an avid flyer who co-owned a flying service. He was a flight instructor, an aircraft salesman, and became a commercial pilot. Later, Bill was a contractor with Brasher and Sons Company building homes in the Birmingham area and Vestavia Hills. He became a commercial project manager building hospitals, foundries, and other large facilities across Alabama and Mississippi. He then moved to Southern Company, working there for 20 years assuring the quality of power systems across the Southeast. He found a passion for working with the railroads with National Weights and Measures Associations. He held chairman and multiple committee positions affecting regulations and laws across the United States. He also began working with implementing new and innovative technologies for the southern electric systems and all major railroads in the United States.
Bill was preceded in death by his father and mother, B. G. and Myrtle Brasher, his brothers Gilbert Brasher and Charles Brasher, his son Gerry Brasher, his wife, Pat Brasher, and his grandson Solon Brasher. He is survived by his brother Curtis Brasher, his son Billy Brasher Jr. [Karri], his daughter Barri Burnett, and his son Chris Brasher [Mindy]; his grandchildren, Brian Brooks [Melanie], Brooke Ashcraft [Josh], Brent Burnett, Mary Coots [Ashton], Cameron Brasher, Allison Brasher, Nicholas Brasher, Jonathan Allen, and Anna Brasher; great-grandchildren Sophie Burnett, Ella Brasher, and Lucas Brooks.
Visitation was held October 6, 2023 at Vestavia Hills Methodist Church in Vestavia Hills, Alabama in the Church Sanctuary from 9:30 – 11:00 a.m., followed by a Memorial Service. Graveside services to follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Vestavia Hills Methodist Church.
