Steve Corbin, age 64, passed away Tuesday, Dec 13, 2016. Steve graduated from Westover High School in Albany, Georgia and from Auburn University with a degree in electrical engineering. He retired from Southern Company after 40 years of service. He is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Cathy Corbin, son, Tyler Corbin (January), daughter, Casey Pate (Don Ross); 3 grandchildren, and brother, Dick Corbin (Gloria).

A gathering will be held to celebrate Steve’s life on Friday, December 16, 2016 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home from 5-7 pm. Flowers are appreciated; however, others mays benefit from contributions in Steve’s memory to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105. Jesse Stringer Vogtle, Sr., age 82, died peacefully on December 12, 2016 surrounded by his family. He was born in Birmingham, Alabama on January 22, 1934. He is the son of the late Alvin Ward Vogtle and Ollie Stringer Vogtle. Mr. Vogtle joined his client, Alabama Power Company as Vice President, and during the course of his career was selected as General Counsel, Executive Vice President, and {Bham News skipped words or his position on?…} Board of Directors. He retired from Alabama Power in 1987. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Alline Brown Vogtle, his son Jesse Stringer Vogtle, Jr. (Laura) and daughter Elizabeth Vogtle Hale, and 8 grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Friday, December 16, 2016 at St. Luke’s Episcopal Church at 11:00 a.m. Visitation with family at the church will occur in the Founder’s Room at 10:00 a.m. A family burial service at Elmwood cemetery will occur before the Memorial Service. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be sent to St. Luke’s Church, 3736 Montrose Road, Birmingham, AL 35213 or the charity of your choice.

Edward Stanley Smith, age 72, of Remlap, Alabama passed away on December 10, 2016. He served in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War, and served for a total of 4 years. He retired from the Southern Company after 30 years. He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Pattie Smith; son Dr. Daron (Tammie) Smith; daughters, Darla (C.W.) Jordy and Melea (William) Kizziah; 4 grandchildren, and a great grandchild expected next week; brothers Walt (Judy) Smith and Paul (Ellen) Smith; and sisters, Loretta Cendroski and Donna (John) Vogel. Funeral services were held on Wednesday, Dec 14 at Lemley Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Oak Hill Cemetery.

William “Ralph” Hendon (1928 – 2016)

Aug. 19, 1928 – Dec. 6, 2016 William Ralph Hendon, age 88, went home to his Lord and Savior on Tuesday, December 6, 2016. He was a devoted member of McElwain Baptist Church. He retired from Southern Company Services. He is survived by Mary his beloved wife of sixty years, adored children Susan and David, sisters Maxine Kemp, Eloise (Charlie) Alexander, and much loved nieces and nephews. His faith was unwavering, his strength was immeasurable, and his love was encompassing. He was a blessing to all who knew him. The family will receive friends on Friday, December 9, 2016, from 1-2 PM at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home Chapel. The Graveside Service will follow at 2 PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens, South with Pastor Jody Baker officiating. 2 Timothy 4:7-8

Ann and Henry Garrett (Updated)

Updated 11/21/2016:

Henry is now at St. Martin’s in the Pines Nursing Center, Room 001.
He is better but it will be a slow rehab process.

Updated 11/10/2016:

Henry Garrett’s wife Ann has reported that Henry is improving and is expected to be transferred to St. Martin in the Pines Nursing center for rehabilitation in the near future.

Please continue praying for Henry and Ann.

11/2/2016:

We got a message from Ann Garrett on Tuesday evening (11/1/2016) that she and her husband Henry had been in a car accident and he is in intensive care at St. Vincent’s Hospital. He had multiple injuries.
