Phillip Albert Lavallet III

Phillip Albert Lavallet, III of Mountain Brook passed away on August 24 and is now home with his Heavenly Father. He was proceeded in death by his wife of 49 years, Barbara Melson Lavallet, and his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Phillip Albert Lavallet, Jr. (Nelda Eubank). He is survived by his wife of 7 years, Virginia Head Gross Lavallet; a brother, Henry Lavallet (Judy); and a sister, Virginia Lavallet Underwood. He is also survived by two daughters, Margaret Lavallet Benton and Kathryn Lavallet Tortorici (Sam); two step children, Catherine Gross and John Gross, III (Melanie). He had 5 grandchildren and 3 step grandchildren: Michael Tortorici, Steven Benton, Daniel Tortorici, Katy Benton, Gracie Tortorici, John Gross, IV, Ansley Gross, and Evans Gross.

Phil was a Birmingham native and graduated from Ramsay High School in 1955. He was a stand-out player and captain of his Ramsey High School football team. He won the Fred Sington trophy for outstanding athlete/scholar in High School in 1955. He attended Auburn University where he received a B.S. degree in Chemistry and Literature and a member of Alpha Epsilon Delta, a pre-med honorary. While at Auburn, he was a member of the Pi Kappa Alpha fraternity and served as President in 1958-1959. Following college, he was a member of the Alabama Air National Guard and the US Air Force where he was stationed in Dreux, France (1960-1961). He continued with the Alabama Air National Guard until 1965 with a Second Lieutenant Rank and was promoted to First Lieutenant in Inactive U.S. Air Force Reserve.

Kenneth “Cowboy” Adkins

Kenneth “Cowboy” Adkins, Sept. 28, 1950 – Aug. 24, 2016, of Sylvan Springs, passed away on Wednesday, August 24, 2016, at age 65. He was retired from Southern Company after 25 years of service. He was a member of Bible Comes to Life Church. He was an avid fisherman and loved working with computers. He is survived by his son, Kenny Adkins; his brother, Dan Adkins (Katty); and his adopted brother, Stanley McCain (Dixie). The family will receive friends on Friday, August 26, 2016, from 5pm-7pm at Bible Comes to Life Church in Adger, AL. The service will follow with Pastor Phillip Hill officiating. Interment will be on Saturday, August 27, 2016, at 1pm at Pine Grove Cemetery in Union, MS. In lieu of flowers, the family request donations be made to Bible Comes to Life Church.

Linda Earnestine Glenn Headley – Alabama Power Retiree

Linda Earnestine Glenn Headley, age 72, passed away Monday, August 8, 2016.  She attended Woodlawn High School and UAB and retired from Alabama Power Company.  She was an active church member her entire life.  Linda was preceded in death by her parents, and her sister.  She is survived by her children Ron (Angelica), Drew (Deedee) and 6 grandchildren and 2 great grandchildren and 2 nieces.  Service was held on Thursday, August 11 at Johns-Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel, 800 Dennison Ave SW, Birmingham, AL  35211.  Burial followed in Elmwood.

Rosemary Weekley Wright (1928 – 2016)

Rosemary (Rosie) Weekley Wright, July 21, 1928 – Aug 8, 2016, age 88 of Cahaba Heights, AL passed away August 8, 2016. Granny Rosie, as she was known to her family and friends was married to William H. (Bill) Wright for 57 years when Bill died in April, 2007. Rosemary graduated from Woodlawn High School, retired from Southern Company Services and was a member of Philadelphia Baptist Church in Cahaba Heights, AL for many years. The love of her life was first her Savior and Lord, Jesus Christ, and then her family. In addition to her loving husband Bill, she was preceded in death by a son, Randy Neal Wright; parents, Gladys and Robert Quinton Weekley; brother, Quinton Darrell Weekley. She is survived by a son Terrell (Terry) S. Wright (Phyliss); a daughter-in-law, Melanie Wright; grandchildren: Leslie, Quinton (Becky), Brittany Von Kanel (Brent), Laura Wright and Benjamin Wright, two great granddaughters Lily Von Kanel and Ruby Von Kanel, two great-grandsons, Scott Von Kanel, and Maverick Wright, several cousins, nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends onFriday, August 12 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. at Philadelphia Baptist Church, 3001 Pump House Road, Vestavia Hills, AL 35243. Funeral services will be at the church on Friday, August 12 at 11a.m. with burial to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. Officiating Pastors Cory Varden and Tim Evans.
