Mar. 13, 1918 – May 22, 2016: Marjorie Chiles Jenkins (1918 – 2016) age 98 of Birmingham, passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clarence Clifton Jenkins, Jr.; father, Dr. Thomas T. Chiles; mother, Gertrude Brown Chiles Farr; step-father, Rev. E. C. Farr; and sisters, Anne Crenshaw Chiles Linx, Helen Elizabeth Chiles, Mildred Louise Chiles and Doris Jean Chiles Mitchell Schmalenberger. She is survived by her niece, Sharon Mitchell Medlin (Benny – deceased); nephew, Russell Glenn Mitchell (Wyona); great-nieces, Jodie Long, Kellie Mitchell and Dawn Rowley; cousins, Lynne Dickerson and Tom Cartledge; special friend, John Wright; and special thanks to her caregivers, Jackie, Brenda, Rosaland, Pat, Shannon and Sue for 4 years of love and tenderness and also her friends, Gail and Teresa. Margie was born and raised in Wahalak, MS then moved to Birmingham to work at Standard Oil. She retired from U.S. Pipe and Foundry after 50 years service, where she was known as “pretty as a picture” and “fashion perfect”. Margie was a member of First UMC of Birmingham and several dance clubs, including The Arabs Club, JBY Ballroom Dance Club and The Club. She spent many years as a caregiver for her husband and two sisters. Her family will celebrate her life with a memorial service at 3:00 PM on Saturday, May 28, 2016 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heat Association.

Obituary
March 2, 1927 – May 11, 2016: Mr. Thomas Dawson Posey, 89, died peacefully at his home on May 11, 2016. Heaven is rejoicing in receiving this wonderful man of God. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann Vick Posey. They were married for 36 years. He took an early retirement from Honeywell to care for her until her death in 1990. He is survived by his current wife of 20 years, Clara Pierce Posey, his children, Teresa Posey Capra (Philip), Vicki Posey Rogers (William), Dawson Posey Gentry and stepson, Tim Pierce. His grandchildren, Jacob and Sarah Rogers, Claire and Thomas Capra, Emily Capra Creel (Joseph), Amanda Hartley, Bradley Pierce and Ashley Pierce Smith (Steven) all loved their PawPaw. He also has one great-grandchild, McKenzie Smith. He served faithfully as a deacon, choir member, and regular biscuit buddy at his church, Community Baptist, and will be missed greatly by the members. Mr. Posey served our country in World War II as a Merchant Marine, and also in the Korean Conflict as a Sergeant in the Army. Until recently, he was delivering bread to local charities, always saving some for families he knew were in need. He was a member and past Mason in the Masonic Lodge for sixty years. As a Shriner, he transported children for burn treatments to the Shriner’s Hospitals for Children-Greenville (South Carolina). The family will receive family and friends on Friday, May 13th, from 12:30 until 2:00 at Community Baptist Church, 8254 Highway 17 in Maylene. The service will commence at 2:00 and military burial will follow at Elmwood Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, please send donations to St. Labre Indian School (Ashland MT 59004-1001) or The Foundry (1801 Fifth Avenue North, Bessemer, AL 35020).

May 9, 2016 Spring Luncheon
Our annual spring luncheon was held on Monday May 9, 2016 at the Pelham Civic Center. We had a delicious lunch and listened to a great presentation by John Trawick, Senior Vice President of Commercial Operations and Planning. He explained many of the latest Southern Company business initiatives, status of the industry and other company news. Many thanks to our beloved Southern Company for keeping us up-to-date and for providing us with this wonderful meal.
Woody Woodruff
March 22, 1913 – April 23, 2016 Richard Shaul Woodruff, age 103, passed away on Saturday, April 23, 2016. Mr. Woodruff was a graduate of the University Of Alabama College Of Engineering, where he was a distinguished Engineering Fellow, and received the American Society of Civil Engineer Rickey Medal in 1972. He was also a member of Independent Presbyterian Church. Mr. Woodruff retired after 37 years from Alabama Power Company, where he was manager of Hydroelectric Plant Planning Section for Southern Company Services, Inc. He serviced the industry and profession as Secretary, Executive Committee, ASCE Power Division; President, Birmingham Branch ASCE; and member of the ASCE Board of Directors. He was a member of the U.C. Committee on Large Dams and is a Registered Professional Engineer. Mr. Woodruff worked as an executive engineer on hydro projects including Logan Martin, Weiss, Bouldin, Henry, Lay, Smith, Holt, Bankhead and R.L. Harris Dams. Mr. Woodruff was also able to bring an end to the years of flooding in the Village Creek area. Mr. Woodruff was preceded in death by his wife Gwendolyn Roberson and is survived by his two sons Michael and Richard. Graveside services will be held on Wednesday, April 27, 2016 at 1:00 p.m. at Forest Crest Cemetery, 5730 US Hwy 78, Birmingham, AL 35210
