Lester Daw

Mr. Lester E. Daw entered into heaven on June 20, 2020.  Mr. Daw is survived by his loving wife,  Paula of Birmingham, AL, her daughter Stephanie Robinson (Robert), and granddaughter Cary Marie Robinson of Calera, AL; sister Barbara Kirsch (Henry) of Gulf Breeze, FL; brothers Johnny Daw (Myong), and Jerry Daw (Tina) of Evergreen, AL; and two nieces Kelly Daw Mooney (James) and children Grace and Dawson of Eclectic, AL; and Kayla Daw Givan (Will) and their daughter, Pharibah of Auburn, AL.

Mr. Daw’s love of God and family was evident to all who had the pleasure of knowing him.  He graduated from Auburn University with a degree in engineering and had recently retired.  He was an avid fisherman, craftsman, and he enjoyed woodturning and blacksmithing, as well.

A graveside service was held Monday, June 29th, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at the Olive Branch Baptist Church Cemetery in Evergreen, AL with Pastor Roger Hendon officiating.  Family and friends were welcomed at the Funeral Home at 12:30 and there was a procession to the cemetery.

Ken Boyd is one of our retirees.

Masks are encouraged and only limited numbers will be allowed in the smaller galleries to adhere to the social distancing guidelines. Refreshments will not be served, but guests are encouraged to patronize our local restaurants in Gadsden.

Artist Ken Boyd will be giving a talk discussing his work at 6:30 p.m. Chairs will be placed following social distancing guidelines and the talk will be recorded live on social media.

Husband of Pat Phillips

PELL CITY – Funeral Services for Ralph D. Phillips, age 82, were held Tuesday, May 26th, at 11:00a.m. at Kilgroe Funeral Home in Pell City, AL. Interment will be at Forest Crest Cemetery. The family received friends from 10:00a.m. to 11:00a.m. at the funeral home. His son-in-law, Sam Manning officiated the service. Mr. Phillips passed away Friday, May 22, 2020. He is preceded in death by parents, Dave Henderson Phillips and Irma Bessie Mae Linard Phillips; sisters, Helen Phillips Cauble and Barbara Phillips Higgins; brothers, Carl Phillips, Howard Phillips.

He is survived by his loving wife of 65 years, Patricia Phillips; sons, Ralph Eugene Phillips, David Phillips (Julie), Jim Phillips (Panita), Patrick Kelly Phillips; daughter, Wanda Phillips Manning (Samuel); sister, Carolyn Phillips Godwin; grandchildren, Kymberlie Manning Tyson (Adam), Julie Manning, Melanie Manning, Austin Phillips (Ashli), April Phillips, Jamie Phillips, Cameron Phillips, Caleb Phillips, Charlotte Phillips, Ashley Hewitt, Stephanie Phillips; great- grandchildren, Cole Adams, Haven Adams, Ella Tyson, Cambrie Tyson, Brennen Tyson, Kai Phillips, Kora Phillips, Sophia Truvillo, Brianna Montoya, Aleah Montoya; 7 nieces; 15 nephews and many cousins and in-laws. Wife of Perry Stowe

Jan celebrated her 72 years of life with her husband W. Perry Stowe for 46 plus years. Jan was welcomed into God’s hands on May 24, 2020 after a brief illness. In addition to her husband, she is survived by her son Dr. William P. Stowe III of Mountain Brook, daughter-in-law Dr. Angela M. Stowe and their two children William P. Stowe IV (Liam) and Julia F. Stowe, son Michael B. Stowe and Christina Hendrix of Cumming, Ga., and brother David E. King ( Merrily) of Mobile, AL. After graduation from University of Montevallo with a BA and University of Arkansas with a MA , she taught in the Mountain Brook and Hoover School systems. She was a member of the Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church and the Becomers SS class. Because of the family’s concern for everyone health, there will be a private columbarium service at VHUMC on Thursday and a Celebration of Life service at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please send a donation to Vestavia Hills United Methodist Church or a charity of your choice.
