Mar. 14, 2022 Meeting at Shelby Co. Arts Center

As the Colonade and Alabama Power buildings are still not available for our meetings, we will be meeting again at the Shelby County Arts Center.  This is a very nice facility and only a 20-30 minute drive from Chelsea or Pelham.  Come on down and enjoy the meeting and the friendly neighborhood atmosphere in Columbiana.

Lifestyle Speaker: Luke Robinson
Marketing Manager, Robinson Iron

Robinson Iron performed the disassembly and restoration of Vulcan, a cast iron sculpture. It included repairs to the deteriorating and damaged statue. Luke will speak on the challenges and success they had in restoring Vulcan and other cast structures they have completed.

Leigh will share with us what is happening in the economic, community and business development area at Alabama Power.

Charles Biddy, Sr.

Charles L. Biddy Sr. age 87 went to be with the Lord on Friday, February 11, 2022. He was preceded in death by his parents, Vernon and Essie McGuire Biddy. He is survived by his wife of 63 years, Virginia Hall Biddy; son, Charles “Chuck” L. Biddy, Jr.; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Charles graduated from Woodlawn High School where he was in the ROTC and then served in the U.S. Army after High School. He was a longtime member of First Baptist Church of Trussville where he served in many roles including greeter and working with the Children’s Ministry. Charles began his career with Alabama Power and retired from Southern Company in 1989 as supervisor of computer services.

In his retirement years, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, watching sports especially Alabama Football, working in the yard and traveling with Virginia. There was a graveside service on Friday, February 18, 2022 at Jefferson Memorial Gardens beginning at 11:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to First Baptist Church of Trussville Children’s Ministry.

Charles Campbell

Charles Louis Campbell, Jr. age 92, passed away on January 19, 2022. He loved Christ, his family, and the Church. He retired from Southern Company after 30 years and had a short stint with Daniel Ornamental Iron.

He was a founding member of Eastside Baptist Church, Roebuck Park Baptist, FBC of Trussville, and finally Briarwood Presbyterian. He was preceded by his wife, Betty Wilbanks Campbell and his granddaughter, Trevelyn Grace Campbell. He is survived by his children, Laura Junkins (Robbie), Clay Campbell (Penny); his grandchildren, Brett Hancock, Ali Varden (Evan), Charlie Campbell; his sister, Sue Campbell Gray; and many nieces, nephews, and other family members.

A graveside service was be held on Tuesday, January 25 at 12PM at Jefferson Memorial Gardens in Trussville. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Trevelyn Campbell Memorial Art Scholarship at Samford University.

Wife of Bill Reed former President of SCS

Elizabeth “Betty” Reed, age 93 of Mountain Brook passed away on Thursday, December 30, 2021. She was born in Lynn, Massachusetts to Mr. and Mrs. Cecil Burke. She married William “Bill” Reed on October 9, 1954. She attended Emerson College and then went to work for General Electric. There at work, she met the love of her life Bill. After marrying, she moved around the country while Bill continued working for GE. They finally settled in Birmingham. Betty was a member of Canterbury Methodist Church for over 48 years. She was also a member of Newcomers, Ballerina Dance Clubs, and Valley Brook Garden Club.

Betty enjoyed traveling with Bill and playing golf with her husband, friends, and grandchildren. She especially enjoyed being ‘Grammy’ to all her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her devoted husband of 67 years, Bill Reed; daughter Susan Reed Hene (Paul} of Tyler, TX; Scott Reed (Stacey) of Birmingham, AL; grandchildren Stuart Hene (Sarah) of Tyler, TX; David Hene (Kristin) of Dallas, TX; Russell Hene (Brogan) of Austin, TX; Winston Reed of Birmingham, AL; Kendall Reed of Birmingham, AL; great grandchildren: Harper Hene of Dallas, TX; Burch Hene and Cullen Hene of Tyler, TX; Worth Hene, Haze Hene and Rove Hene of Austin, TX. Betty was preceded in death by her parents Cecil and May Burke, and brother Leslie Russell Burke all of Lynn, MA.

The memorial service will be on Saturday, January 29 at Canterbury Methodist Church with visitation at 10:00 and service at 11:00. The family would like to thank her wonderful caregivers Gloria Carter, Mary Mack, and caregivers of Lipford Home Care. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorials in memory of Betty be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Alabama.
