July 14, 1925 – March 3, 2016 William H. McKinney, age 90, of Moody, passed away Friday, March 4, 2016. Born July 14, 1925, Bill was a much loved husband, father, and grandfather. He attended Woodlawn High School and proudly served his country in the Marine Corp during World War II. He was a member of the Fifth Marine Division in the battle of Iwo Jima. After the war, he attended Howard College (Samford University) and received his degree in electrical engineering from Auburn University. His career included working for James B. Clow & Sons Cast Iron Pipe, Southern Company Services, Combustion Engineering, and Rust Engineering. He retired from Rust and built a house on the lake where he enjoyed daily walks. Bill was preceded in death by his parents Thomas L. McKinney, Lillie Mae (Bunn) McKinney; brothers Edward Eugene McKinney and Thomas L. McKinney, Jr.; and his beloved wife of 69 years, Carlyn O. McKinney. He is survived by his daughter Lyn McKinney Pierce; son William E. McKinney (Wanda); grandchildren Amy Pierce, Nashville, TN; and Wil McKinney, Alexander City, AL; along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. The family will receive friends Wednesday March 9, from 1:00pm to 2:00pm at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, with services immediately following, Brother Clint Wood officiating. Interment follows at Jefferson Memorial Gardens East.

Husband of Grace Miller Prigmore

Edwin “Ed” Shelton Prigmore, April 17, 1925 – March 8, 2016, age 90, passed away Tuesday, March 8, 2016 and is now rejoicing in the arms of his Lord and Savior in Heaven. Funeral services will be held Saturday, March 12, 2016 at noon at Jefferson Memorial Funeral Home in Trussville, Alabama. The family will receive visitors one hour prior to the funeral. Burial will be at Trussville City Cemetery. Rev. Bert Cornelius will officiate. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Teddy Layfield, Stephen Layfield, Jason Prigmore, Mason Buchanan, Billy Kennedy, and Brandon Sevedge. He was preceded in death by his wife of 66 years, Boots Prigmore, his parents, Edwin Shelton Prigmore and Essie Fagan Prigmore, and his brothers, William Nighbert Prigmore and James Anderson Prigmore. Ed is survived by his wife, Grace Miller, his daughters Linda Marie Prigmore (Larry) Layfield of Pinson, Alabama, Cynthia “Cindy” Anne Prigmore (Chris) Marlowe of Shreveport, Louisiana, and Susan Elaine Prigmore (Jan) Kizziah of Gordo, Alabama, and his sons Edwin Shelton Prigmore III and Capp Lawrence of Boaz, Alabama , and Philip Brian Prigmore and Sharon Keaton of Huber Heights, Ohio. Happy Birthday to Gale Dougherty

Mr. Gale Dougherty and his wife Mary are still going strong  They had all their family with spouses together last week.  They had several birthdays to celebrate including his 98th. Attendance was 28. Their tenth great grandchild was there from London.

Gerald Burt

Gerald Winston Burt  Nov 11, 1929 – Feb. 16, 2016

Gerald, a resident of Birmingham, Al, passed away at the age of 86.  He attended Beth Hallel and Chelsea Creek Community Church.  He served our country in the U.S. Air Force and National Guard.  He was a graduate of Ensley High School and Jefferson State Community College and he retired from Southern Company Services.

Gerald was preceded in death by his wife, Faye Phillips Burt; parents, George Burt, Sr. and Mary Frances Burt, brother, George Burt, Jr.; sisters, Ennis Burt and Georgia Alexander.  He is survived by his niece and caregiver, Jaqueline Schillaci (Jake).  A special thanks to Magnolia Ridge Nursing Home and St. Vincent’s hospice for their comfort and care.

Obituary of Lois Dowdle, widow of Tom Dowdle, deceased SCS Retiree

Jan 16, 1927-Feb 22, 2016 Lois M. Dowdle of Trussville, Alabama passed into God’s loving care in her home Monday morning February 22, 2016. Lois was born in Lake Park, Iowa, married Tom Dowdle, her husband of 54 years, in Birmingham, and lived in Trussville for the past 60 years where she raised her family. Lois was a member of The First Baptist Church of Trussville where she was a loyal member of the Eunice Sunday School Class, enjoyed working with the WMU, and also had an 18 year career with McRae’s department store. She was beloved by her church, community and family and will be greatly missed. Lois was preceded in death by her parents Minnie Wagner Mertens and Henry William Mertens, husband Tom Dowdle, daughter Curry Jo Dowdle Rosa, brothers Wendell Mertens and Marlo Mertens, and sisters Katherine Vijar and Geraldine Baker.
