Message from Jeannine M. Bailey, Southern Nuclear,Communications Director, received 6/20/2016:
Can I ask for five minutes of your time today? I am asking you to take action to help keep America’s reliable, efficient nuclear plants working for all of us. As you know, America’s nuclear energy plants provide safe, secure, reliable, affordable, carbon-free electricity to tens of millions of households and businesses around the country. We supply nearly 20 percent of America’s electricity—and 63 percent of the nation’s carbon-free electricity. Despite our value, a combination of factors—including low natural gas prices, energy policies and market structures that fail to recognize their value—place some of our plants in economic jeopardy.
How can you help? All it takes is your signature. Sign a petition to keep America’s nuclear power plants working.
I am asking all of my coworkers to respectfully request that the federal government institute policies that recognize the special and unique benefits of nuclear power. We are all fully aware of what unfortunately occurs when nuclear isn’t given the same benefits as other sources of power – our plants are unable to compete in unbalanced markets.
In order to get a response from the White House, this petition needs 100,000 signatures by July 8, 2016. Please show your support for nuclear by adding your name to the rolls. The nuclear industry is supporting this effort and is asking for all employees of the industry to participate. Once you’ve signed, I ask that you share this petition on social media. Our best chance at reaching the 100,000 signature goal is for this to truly take off on Facebook, Twitter and LinkedIn. Please take this as a personal challenge to get as many people to sign as you can.
Thank you, in advance, for supporting nuclear energy. It is encouraging to see how many people have already gotten behind this effort but more needs to be done – so let’s all take action today!
