Nov. 2014 President’s Message

I hope all of you are enjoying our beautiful fall weather and even a hint of winter here and there. We have some very important dates on the calendar for SCS/SNC Retirees. This year is speeding by as I realize our next meeting is scheduled for 12:00 PM on Wednesday, November 19, 2014 at the Vestavia Country Club Ballroom A in Vestavia Hills, Alabama.

This fall meeting is always a very special meeting for our retiree group. Gray Murray, Nominating Committee Chairman will present the new slate of officers for the upcoming year. Jackie Imbusch and the Program Committee have arranged entertainment from Surprise Package Quartet, bringing us a variety of popular songs. The luncheon meals served by Vestavia CC have been outstanding in our prior meetings there and I believe the menu planned by Glenda James, Arrangement Chairperson, may be our best yet. Please mark your calendar.

Another very important date for all of us in SCS/SNC Retirees, the State, and the country is November 4, 2014. I trust all of you will take an active role in voting and encouraging and helping others to do so. I doubt that any one group will have more at stake in this election than seniors and retirees. Healthcare, taxation, and pensions are only a few of the important issues that will impact us not only as individuals but for our country’s future. Leadership at all levels hinges on our voting to select appropriate people to fill positions supporting seniors and retirees.

Speaking of healthcare, our last SCS/SNC Retirees meeting featured representatives from SCS Human Resources. They addressed several questions about our company provided supplemental health coverage. We are grateful for their information and the candid comments about the uncertain issues of future coverage and costs.

I invite you to visit our website at www.scsretirees.com to keep abreast of the latest news within our SCS/SNC Retirees organization. Cary Campbell keeps us informed on member care, Southern Nuclear news releases, and many other items in this excellent website.

So join us on November 19, 2014, in Ballroom A, Vestavia Country Club for our fall meeting. There is time set aside for sign in and socializing beginning at 11:00 AM. Fellowship awaits you!
