Bernie Rogers Matthews, of Montgomery, Alabama, passed away on July 13, 2018. Bernie was born in Evergreen, Alabama to Columbus Dewitt Matthews and Goldie Frances Riley Matthews. He worked in engineering for Southern Nuclear of Southern Company where he retired after 30 years. Bernie was an incredibly creative and talented man with a special knack and love for architecture, landscaping, vintage car restoration, and home renovation. Bernie enjoyed classic rock music, old western Clint Eastwood movies, and vintage television shows such as Mash and The Twilight Zone.
Bernie is survived by his wife, Deborah Smith Matthews; son, John Matthews; sister, Nita Schillaci (Al); brother, Glen Matthews (Jackie); special niece,Allison Baxley (David); great nephew, Brooks Baxley; special nephew, Eric Wilson (Alyssa); great nephew, Alec Wilson and many other nieces and nephews.
A private graveside service was held at Alabama Heritage Cemetery, on Monday July 16.
A memorial service was held at Frazer United Methodist Church chapel on Saturday, July 28th.
