Ray Bailey

Herman R. Bailey (Ray), age 82, of Hoover, Alabama passed away suddenly on December 1, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman M. Bailey and Lois Turner, and an infant brother, James W. Bailey. Ray received his B.S. in Civil Engineering from the University of Alabama and was a member of their Capstone Engineering Society. In 1988, ray was designated a Fellow in the American Society of Civil Engineers. he was a registered Professional Engineer in multiple states.

Ray worked for over forty years in the construction and energy industry in engineering and management positions. Upon retiring from The Southern Company, he was a consulting engineer with Departments of Transportation in several states in the design of highway structures. Ray was an avid snow skier and golfer. he won several medals in the NASTAR ski competitions. During his years of golfing, he made an incredible six hole-in-ones. He was a member of Riverchase County Club and enjoyed his annual golf reunions for over 25 years with special friends Charles Barranger, Ron Rodgers, and Priya Misra.

Ray was a member of Christ the King Anglican Church in Hoover, Alabama and maintained friendships with Dawson Baptist Church friends Larry White, Richard Childress and Vance Alexander. Ray is survived by his wife Catherine A. Heinzerling, his daughters Kathy Brown and Tammy Langston (Randy), grandchildren Josh, Carla and Miranda; great-grandchildren Granger, Shainna, Cayden, Ryder, Ernie, and Raylan; sisters-in-law Connie Heinzerling of N.Y., Gail Heinzerling of Tinos, Greece, and Joyce Heinzerling Davis (Thomas Davis) of N.Y. and Bermuda; two nephews Justin Beckert and David Heinzerling of N.Y. and Goddaughter Ava Ann Traylor.

A funeral service was held at Christ the King Anglican Church, 2250 Blue ridge Blvd., Hoover Al 35226 on Thursday, December 5, 2019 with visitation from 10:30 am to 11:45 am and funeral service at 12 noon. Private family graveside followed. In memory of Ray, the family suggests memorial contributions to Christ the King Anglican Church, or the University of Alabama Capstone Engineering Society.
