William Matthew Midlik passed away Tuesday, July 11, 2023, at 95 years of age following a short illness. Bill was a resident of Galleria Woods Residential Facility for the past 7 years. Bill was born in Bethelboro, PA and was the 13th of 15 children. Bill was the last surviving sibling. He is also preceded in death by his mother Julia Rabatin Midlik, father Joseph Midlik and his first wife Josephine Midlik. Bill is survived by his wife, Mollie Midlik, sons David Midlik (Mona) and Joseph Midlik, daughter Patti Midlik Hendrix (Mike), sons James Kilgore (Twila) and Keith Kilgore (Diane), eight grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Bill was an Air Force Veteran serving from 1946 to 1949. He received his Electrical Engineering Degrees from Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland OH in 1953. While working for General Electric Company, Bill found himself in Huntsville, AL as part of the Apollo Space Program training astronauts working on the program from 1962 to 1974. He traveled between Houston, Huntsville and Cape Canaveral during this period. Bill, fearing a transfer back North (to shovel snow), applied for employment with the Nuclear Power Division of Southern Company. He moved to Birmingham and retired from Southern Company in 1988. He and his wife, Mollie, have spent 32 years traveling and dancing. Bill and his wonderful personality will be greatly missed at Galleria Woods.
There will be a celebration of life service on Friday, July 21, at 2 pm in the chapel at Currie-Jefferson Funeral Home, 2701 John Hawkins Parkway, Hoover, AL 35244 with a reception to follow.
Interment will be at Alabama National Cemetery at a later date.
