Bobby Armistead

Bobby Martin Armistead went to be with his Lord and Savior on March 31, 2025. He was a member of Vestavia Hills Methodist Church. He was born on March 7, 1937 to Henry Martin Armistead and Julia Irene Yaw Armistead in Birmingham, Jefferson County, Alabama.

He graduated from West End High School in 1954 and from Auburn University in 1959 with a degree in Mechanical Engineering. Having participated in Auburn’s ROTC program, Bobby made Captain in the Corp of Engineers, US Army.

Bobby worked for Alabama Power Company and Southern Company Services for 38 years. He retired in 1992 as Manager of Power Generation Services, Alabama Power.

Bobby was predeceased by his parents and his wife of 33 years, Bonnie Saunders Buchanan Armistead. He is survived by his son; Martin Nathaniel Armistead, his daughter; Suzanne Armistead Richardson (Christopher), and his stepson; Ronald Edward Buchanan, Jr. (Christy), grandchildren; Ann Martin Richardson, Jack Armistead Richardson, Bonnie Virginia Buchanan, Hillary Claire Buchanan, Maximillian Augustus Buchanan, Emma Camp-Orr, and Anderson Edward Camp.

A public visitation was held on Saturday, April 19, 2025 from 10:00-11:00am in the chapel of Johns Ridout’s Elmwood Chapel located at 800 Dennison Ave. SW, Birmingham, Alabama 35211 with a funeral service following at 11:00 at Elmwood Cemetery. Reverend James L. Williams officiating. Bobby was a beloved husband, father and grandfather, uncle and friend. He was an avid photographer, gardener, and proud Auburn alum. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends.
