Bob Schleusner

Robert Adam Schleusner Jr., 84, passed away May 18, 2025. Born in Birmingham on February 21, 1941, the oldest son of Elizabeth Blackmon and Robert Adam Schleusner, Bob grew up in Roanoke, Alabama and graduated from Handley High School as Valedictorian of the class of 1959. He attended the University of Alabama where he enjoyed membership in Delta Tau Delta fraternity and graduated with a degree in electrical engineering. While a student, he met Alice Herren in chemistry lab. They married after graduating in 1964 and enjoyed 60 wonderful years together. Bob served three years in the US Army in Europe and obtained the rank of Captain. They then moved to Birmingham where Bob was employed by the Southern Company. He spent several years in school outside of work hours to earn a Master of Business Administration at Samford University, and was awarded membership in Phi Kappa Phi scholastic honorary.

In 1979, Bob began a successful career as a commercial real estate developer. He participated in Leadership Birmingham, was President of Operation New Birmingham, and served on the Board of the Country Club of Birmingham. He was a faithful member of Independent Presbyterian Church and was in the process of reading through the Bible before Alzheimer’s ravaged his remarkable brain.

Bob enjoyed membership in Kiwanis, Monday Morning Quarterback Club, and the Rollers Golf Group at BCC. Bob and Alice built and enjoyed a second home in Highlands, NC, and loved the golf and new friendships at Highlands Country Club. Bob’s hobbies included cooking, flyfishing, skiing, and watching Alabama football and basketball. He loved football Saturdays, grilling steaks with a warm fire and good friends!
He will be remembered as a tireless worker with a “no quit”, positive and encouraging leadership style, guided by a strict moral compass. One of his greatest joys came as he mentored family members and others to become their best self. He was a gifted coach with a soft, caring heart!

Bob was preceded in death by his parents; as well as his younger brother, Larry. Survivors include his wife, Alice; three children, Robert Adam III (Anne) of Charlotte, Alice Katherine of Avon, CO, William Dent (Daphne) of Enterprise, and his brother, John, of Panama City, FL. He also leaves six adored grandchildren, Robert Adam IV, Thomas, Mary, William, Wallace, and Lilly. They will miss Big Daddy!

A service to celebrate Bob’s life will be held at Independent Presbyterian Church on May 28, 2025 at 11:30 a.m. There will be a reception at Birmingham Country Club at 12:30 p.m., and a brief visitation at the church at 10:30 a.m. for those who cannot attend the reception.
