Jeffrey Kenneth Branum (Oct 7, 1957 – Dec. 22, 2015) passed away on December 22, 2015. He was preceded in death by his father, Ray Branum, and his beloved grandparents, Ruby Mae Stringer and Henderson Stringer. Jeff is survived by his mother, Sybil Jones; his siblings, Benjamin Branum, Sonya Reece, and Kim Scarbrough; his children, Caitlin and Connor Branum; their mother, Deanna McCombs; and other relatives and friends. Jeff was born in Greenville, Alabama, on October 7, 1957, and he spent over 30 years working for Southern Company as an engineer and project manager. His hobbies included driving fast cars, which won him the Pedal to the Metal award at the Mercedes AMG experience, and being outdoors, whether it was walking, running, climbing or shooting. He also loved cooking everything from juicy hamburgers to his award-winning cheesecake, and he enjoyed spending time with his loved ones. He will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life service for Jeff will be held on Saturday, January 2, 2016 at The Coal Yard restaurant in downtown Helena, Alabama at 2 pm. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations would be mailed to Camp McDowell with “In Memory of Jeff Branum” noted.
Message from Charlie Stein
Hi,
I just found your organization/newsletter. I worked at SCS from 1982-88, with a couple of later stints as a consultant. Maybe I should have stayed longer. I was an electrical engineer in the group supporting Edwin I. Hatch, and worked for Steve Sisson.
I’ve been going through old photos and digitizing them, and found the attached photos from April 1985. One is Henry Vincent, whom I understand from your website passed away in 2013. The other is Hue Van Le, a brilliant electrical engineer whom I hope is well. I also fondly remember E. Carter Leonard, who encouraged me to obtain my Professional Engineering registration, and I hope that he is still around.
I left Birmingham in 1994, returning to Florida, where I’d grown up. I worked there in the water/wastewater treatment industry. In 2004, I decided to switch careers and I moved to Pittsburgh, where I attended the University of Pittsburgh School of Law. Upon graduating in 2007, I moved to New York City, where I work as a patent attorney. I married in March 2014 — I wish I could have married much earlier– and my wife and I enjoy hiking. I have a photoblog (mostly of vacations and hikes) at http://www.lowmileage.com
Best regards,
Charles Stein

Nov. 5, 2015 Holiday Luncheon
Our annual Holiday luncheon was held on Thursday, November 5, 2015 at the Vestavia Country Club where we enjoyed a nice meal and were entertained by the ex-Woodlawn High School “Warblers”. We also elected our 2016 officers and gave donations to several worthy charitable organizations. Here are some pictures…
We hoped you enjoyed it!
Bill Hinton
Dora Brandt just received a call from Mrs. Peggy Hinton. Her husband William Hinton recently had a heart attack and he is recuperating in the hospital. He is better and is expected to be home sometime this week.
Please keep Mr. Hinton and his family in your prayers.
