Bob Patrick

Robert Emerson “Bob” Patrick entered into the full presence of his Lord and Savior on September 18, 2018. Bob was born in Atlanta, GA on September 11, 1942 to Dorothy and Harry Patrick. He professed Christ at a young age and was baptized at First Baptist Church in Newnan, Georgia. He graduated from Newnan High School in 1960 and then attended the Georgia Institute of Technology. In 1964, Bob received a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering and then completed his Master of Science in Nuclear Engineering in 1966. Bob was an avid Georgia Tech fan throughout his life and regularly attended home football games and basketball games. After graduating from Tech, he served as a Captain in the United States Army from 1969 to 1972 with the Arms Control and Disarmament Agency at the U.S. State Department in Washington, D.C. During this time, he was first ordained as a deacon at Kensington Baptist Church in Kensington, Maryland. After his discharge from the Army, he worked for a brief time at the Savannah River Plant in Aiken, South Carolina before moving to Birmingham, AL.

Bob worked for Southern Company Services for 30 years and concluded his career as the Manager of Quality Assurance. Bob coached numerous sports teams for his boys through the years and served as Commissioner for the local baseball league. Bob faithfully served Mountain Brook Baptist Church in various capacities for 31 years. He taught the Young Married Sunday School Class, Fifth and Sixth Grade Boys Sunday School and VBS, attended the Rehoboth Sunday School Class, sang in the choir and was a founding member of the Mellow Brook Singers, was instrumental in developing the Holy Week prayer Vigil and was elected Life Deacon in 2016.

Bob is survived by his wife of 54 years Emma Laura Barron Patrick, his three sons Robert (Bobby) and his wife Kelly, Michael and his wife Monica, and Frank and his wife Beth, nine grandchildren Robert Patrick III, Gunnar, and Ann Kelly; MJ and Luke; Yeadon, Amelia, Colin, ,and Emma Patrick. He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Harry Patrick. Services will be held at Mountain Brook Baptist Church 3631 Montevallo Road, Birmingham, AL 35213. The memorial service was held on Saturday September 22, 2018. In lieu of flowers, the family requested memorials in his honor to Mountain Brook Baptist Church. A special thank you from the family to his caregivers and Expect CARE Hospice nurses and staff.
