We continue to look for ways to develop our employees while building bench strength and enhancing operational excellence.  Therefore, we are pleased to announce the following employee movement and organizational changes in Engineering and Construction Services (E&CS) effective September 13, 2014.

Steve Woodfield-Retiring

Steve Woodfield, General Manager of Design Engineering, has announced his intention to retire during the first quarter of 2015.  During the next few months prior to his retirement, Steve will take on responsibilities associated with planning organizational enhancements to continue our efforts around project delivery improvements in a changing workload environment.  Steve has over 41 years of experience in the Generation organization serving in leadership roles in plant startup, project management, plant O&M, technical services, and design.  Steve will report to Paula and the E&CS management team for these efforts.

Harvey Ivey- General Manager of Design Engineering

Harvey Ivey has been selected to replace Steve as the General Manager of Design Engineering.   For the past five years, Harvey has served as the Manager of I&C Systems and Field Support in E&CS Technical Services. While in this position, Harvey stood up this new organization and provided leadership for the development and implementation of an Instrumentation and Controls (I&C) strategy for Southern Company Generation.  Prior to this role in E&CS, Harvey spent over 30 years in Southern Company Generation, which included responsibilities at five different power plants with his most recent assignment being the Gorgas Plant Manager.  Harvey holds a BSEE from UAB.  Harvey will report to Paula in this role.

James Goosby- Manager of I&C Systems and Field Support

James Goosby has been selected to replace Harvey as Manager of I&C Systems and Field Support.  James holds a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Auburn University in addition to an A.A.S. in Avionics Technology from Alabama Aviation Technical College.  James served in the U.S. Marines for four years as a Data/ Communication Maintenance technician and joined Alabama Power in 1994 as a co-op engineer before assuming a full-time plant engineer position at plant Barry in 2000.  He has held various leadership positions within Southern Company Generation to include Operations Team Leader, I&C Team Leader, Engineering Manager, Maintenance Manager and most recently I&C Field Support Manager.

Mark Ezekiel- I&C Field Support Manager

Mark Ezekiel will backfill the I&C Field Support Manager position as a developmental opportunity replacing James Goosby.  Mark began his service at Southern Company in 1988 as a Co-op in Construction Quality Control at Plant Miller.  After receiving a Bachelor of Electrical Engineering degree from Auburn University in 1989, he worked 15 years in the private architectural and engineering design sector primarily supporting the power utility and paper industries.  Mark re-joined Southern Company in 2005 as an I&C Engineer on the Bowen Environmental projects. He has since progressed through leadership positions including Lead Engineer, Design Supervisor and into his most recent role as Design Engineering Manager – I&C.  He holds Professional Engineering registration in Alabama, Georgia and South Carolina.

Barbara Cole- Design Engineering Manager – I&C

Barbara will fill the role of Design Engineering Manager- I&C replacing Mark Ezekiel.  Currently, she serves as the Assistant to Executive Vice-President of E&CS.  In this role she provides support to the Executive VP and the E&CS Management Council.   She joined Southern Company as a co-op in Mechanical Design before assuming a full-time position as an Instrumentation & Controls Engineer.  She later held multiple leadership positions at BE&K and Robins and Morton Group before rejoining Southern Company in 2006 as an I&C Lead Engineer for the scrubber program.  Since that time she has served as I&C design lead for the Hammond and Miller scrubber projects and  progressed through roles in Project Management Office, Project Engineering, and served as an I&C Supervisor in Birmingham.

April Corey-Design Engineering Manager-Projects

April Corey has been selected through the posting process as the Design Engineering Manager-Projects..   April has a BS in Chemical Engineering and a MS in Environmental Engineering from the University of Alabama.  April joined Southern Company in 1998 as a Chemical Engineer in the Earth Science and Environmental Engineering department. She has held subsequent positions as a Siting Engineer for Generation, Planning, and Development, Retrofit Project Engineer, Project Engineer, and Project Engineering Supervisor.  Her most recent assignments include the Project Engineer for the Gaston FGD, Gaston Baghouse, and Supervisor of Retrofit Project Engineering.  April became a certified Project Management Professional in 2011.

Jimmy Edwards – Human Performance Coordinator

To better align with overall Operational Excellence, Jimmy Edwards will continue his role as Human Performance Coordinator across Southern Company Generation and will now report to Lewis Jeffers.

The following changes will be effective on September 27th:

Stuart McCullough-New Generation Construction General Manager

Stuart will be moving into the New Generation Construction General Manager position reporting to Ashley.  He has an Electrical Engineering degree from UAB, and has been with Southern Company for 33 years.  Currently, Stuart is responsible for the Gorgas Baghouse, Gaston Baghouse, Gaston Gas Capability, Green County Gas Conversion, Birmingham Regional Maintenance Labor Broker Construction, and retrofit work at Alabama plants. The General Manager New Generation Construction has responsibility for overall project execution strategy and oversight of active new build New Generation Projects and ongoing construction activities at the Red Hills Facility and the National Carbon Capture Center.

Kevin Gammill- General Manager APC/P&C

Kevin will backfill the role recently held by Stuart McCullough as General Manager of APC-P&C reporting to Robin.  He has a Bachelor of Science in Chemical Engineering from Auburn University and a MBA from the University of Alabama.   Kevin started his career with Southern Company in 2007.  Since January 2013, he has served as Construction Manager for the Kemper County IGCC.  He was responsible for construction of the Gasifier, Combined Cycle, and Balance of Plant as well as the Administrative and Budgeting activities for the construction team.  In this new role, he will be responsible for the projects and construction activities supporting the Alabama Power generation fleet.
