Charlie Micklewright – Obituary

Jan. 18, 1927 – Dec. 29, 2014 was born on January 18, 1927 and went home to be with our Lord on December 29, 2014. He was the 2nd of 2 children born to Raymond W. “Willie” Micklewright and Minnie Lee Elliott. Charles grew up in Argo, AL, graduated from Hewitt Trussville High School in 1944 early after being double promoted. As part of the greatest generation, Charles joined the U.S. Army in 1945. He was awarded the WWII Victory Medal-American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and received an honorable discharge. Charles later enlisted in Naval Aviation in 1955 to serve in the Korean Conflict. His training and service in navigation took him from New Jersey to San Diego to New Orleans and to Cuba. Charles was awarded 3 Good Conduct Medal Awards for his service in the years 1955, 1956 and 1958 and the National Defense Service Medal. Charles again received an honorable discharge in 1958. An active member of Huffman Baptist Church and a Journeyman of Georgiana Davis Masonic Lodge #338 for over 50 years, Charles attended Howard College. Charles managed the Britling Cafeterias in the Birmingham area and retired from St. Vincent’s Hospital as Dietary Director in 1989. The last 25 years were spent traveling and on the beach. Charles was a faithful husband, inspirational father and caring friend. Charles is survived by the love of his life, Sarah Ann Skelton, his wife of 47 years who he married 5 months after their 1st date; his daughter, Suzanne Bush (Billy); grandchildren, SarahAnne Brewster, Jackson Ward Brewster, Wyatt Elliott Brewster and AJ Bush (Megan); great grandchildren and many cherished cousins, nieces, nephews and friends. Charles was preceded in death by sister, Willie Jo Micklewright; and son-in-law, “KK” Brewster. Visitation will be on Friday, January 2, 2015 from 12:30-2 at Ridout’s Trussville Chapel with his service beginning at 2 PM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Huffman Baptist Church or Central Baptist Cemetery Fund, Argo, AL.

Charles Howard Birchfield

April 10, 1936 – Dec. 25, 2014 Charles Howard Birchfield, 78, of Chelsea, AL died Thursday, December 25, 2014 at his home surrounded by family who loved him. He was retired from Alabama Power Company with over 40 years of service. Charles was a loving husband, remarkable father, and incredible granddaddy who enjoyed spending time with his family and friends. He truly loved camping and traveling, and those traditions have been passed on to his family. Words cannot describe the love he gave to all his family and friends and he was clearly loved by all who knew him. Charles was preceded in death by his parents, Clarence and Dorothy Birchfield, and brother-in-law, Coolidge Sims. He is survived by his loving wife of 48 years, Linda K. Birchfield; daughters, Terri (Paul) Tucker and Kelly (Brad) McDonald; grandchildren, Charli Reaves, Jami Reaves, Isabella Tucker, Kayti Reaves, Bailey McDonald, and Payton McDonald; sisters, Ethel Sims and Betty (Tom) Snowden; and brothers, Paul (Shirley) Birchfield and Gerald (Cheryl) Birchfield. Visitation will be one hour before the 1 p.m. service Tuesday, December 30, 2014 at Ridout’s Southern Heritage Funeral Home in Pelham, AL. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the American Cancer Society

Vogtle 3 & 4 Status
